New website

Post by Lisa » Thu Apr 30, 2020 6:38 pm

I have nearly finished creating the new website for CS. It will look very similar to the current one but 'underneath the bonnet' it will be very different. It will be a WordPress.com website which means it can be maintained by anyone - you don't have to know any web coding.

Eventually I hope to move the forum over too, but WordPress's message board is new feature and whilst we are all in lockdown and using the forum, I don't want to risk swapping it over and it all going wrong and we are left without an online way of communicating.

So that the website can be as relevant and up to date as possible, can members send me any letterbox proportioned photos that I can use for the front slider and for page headings.

Ideally the images should be in the ratio 1500px to 500px 3:1 . I can crop/resize to the exact size so along as they are 1500px or bigger at 144ppi if poss, they should be fine.

As with the current site, each member can have their own portfolio page so if you would like your own page or would like to update the photos in the current one, please send images through to me. Richie and Trevor sent through new images a few months back, Michele I used the photos that you sent for Colin's photo book but if they are now out of date and you want to send me some more, please do.

Hi Lisa. Not sure but I thought I sent some new photos over a little while ago.
Love the blackbird shots as well. Great capture.

Hi Lisa - thank you very much for creating the new website for us all. I understand you to say that some of the members have already sent some images to you so please let me know what types of images I should send you. I would also be very interested in having a portfolio page so again, please let me know what to send.

Hi Lisa,

Many thanks for all your hard work and hours spent re- working the website.
Wordpress will make things easier and allow others to edit the site when and if necessary.
Feel free to use any images you have of mine, including those used for the village web gallery.

Best wishes

Ian

Hi Ed, could you send me 4 images, one for the summary page and 3 for your individual page so I can produce something like this https://colchestercreativeshots.net/pro ... scott.html for you. Send me some blurb too if you like.

Plus does anyone have a good shot of 'creative shots' that Trevor wrote at our last painting with light practical session that I can put on the website??

Hi Lisa - thanks for getting back to me. Here are four images at 3:1 format for your use. Also a few words from me:

"Becoming a member of Colchester Creative Shots has given me a real opportunity to improve my photographic skills. The expertise of the others in the group has been invaluable. I am interested in landscape, architecture, astro, technical and abstract genres. However I'm always on the lookout for new photographic opportunities."

Thanks for the work you're doing and have done.

Hi Ed, these are brilliant for the website general but if you want to send me some more (ordinary proportions) for your portfolio page please do.

Just to let you know that I am changing the website over now so if you can't access the forum or website, I should already be working on it!

OK fingers crossed you should all receive this message as normal. The revised main/other part of the website is now up and running and you should be able to access the forum through the menu link at the top.

You will see that I have given all members a portfolio page. If you didn't send me any photos I used those I already had. If you don't want your own page, let me know andI will take it down.

If you see anything amiss, let me know.

Hi Lisa, looks really fabulous, well done. The only glitch I have come across is that 2 of your portfolio images to not display whereas everyone else's do. But looks really great, I'll try and get you some more images for my portfolio or can I load them myself? Colin

Hi Colin,
Yes it's very odd. I saw this happening to other portfolio pages before the site went live. I've corrected it by linking to the same image again in exactly the same way and this time they show. I then went through everyone's page this morning to check and a few had gone wrong again. If it happens again, I'll get in touch with WP support as it must be some kind of bug.

If you could send me your photos for now Colin and I will upload them but I am working on a way that everyone can start uploading their own images and have their own proper gallery page if they wish as we had before.
