Free A1 Epson Stylus printer
James Sabbarton - james.sabbarton@btinternet.com - has sent the following message (out of the blue)
I have a huge A1 Epson Stylus Pro 7880 printer with spare ink and paper. Prints to A1 and would be ideal for any camera club. Uses roll paper, including canvas, so very economic too and easy use, plus superb results. I DO NOT WANT ANY MONEY. This is a £2k printer, but unfortunately, due to a back injury I don’t use it any more and it’s being wasted. Works perfectly, just needs somebody to say they’d like it, love it and use it and it’s yours. All you have to do is collect it.
Please let me ( = James) know if you are interested as soon as possible, because I don’t want to offer it to another club before I know you are not interested to avoid disappointment…
Please contact James directly if you are interested.

Re: Free A1 Epson Stylus printer
Can we not make use of it as a club printer?
Re: Free A1 Epson Stylus printer
Would be ideal if someone had the room to use it for the club.
Re: Free A1 Epson Stylus printer
Yes I agree. Any offers?

Re: Free A1 Epson Stylus printer
I think you should take a look at a site run by Keith Cooper who has a review of this printer.
His site is http://www.northlight-images.co.uk
Things to note:
It is a big as a large armchair and is on its own castor's.
It weighs about 60 kilos
Probably needs to be on a ground floor.
It is discontinued so it would be a " use until it breaks then discard" policy
To refill with ink costs 725 pounds (more than our annual subs)
If you want to make poster size prints you need high quality files.
Sounds a nice idea but think carefully.
I don't have room for it at home......

I'm with Joe,
We have not identified a need for a club printer of any size and can see no obvious need for this one and as Joe points out the running costs would be prohibitive even if someone found a home for it. If a member would like it, fair enough, but I would not support it becoming a club asset with the ongoing responsibility that would involve. Colin

Just another comment on this....
I don't know of any club locally that has permanent space that is clean enough to house printer and media like this one. Colchester, Chelmsford and a couple of others all book space as and when in halls etc. James might be able to off-load it ( if that's the right expression) to an educational establishment like the one in Colchester who run photo courses etc and who probably don't have anything like this.

Too prohibitive and we would need to dispose of it once it fails. I agree not for us.
