GD10 and beyond

Post by Jim Spurgeon » Tue Mar 17, 2020 7:45 pm

Hi all. Some of you may already be aware that in light of the current government advice, Phil and myself have postponed hanging GD9 for now.

However... I have some thoughts for GD10/11

The first thought, considering the current advice of avoiding unnecessary travel, would be an 'in my garden' theme. I'm sure we can get creative and shoot all manner of things other than just flowers.
The next idea actually came about just after our January meeting. Those who attended may remember Colin's one shot four seasons images from lower castle park. The following week I saw an image on Facebook that I saved and emailed to him (should be attached below). It was nearly the same viewpoint as his but the biggest difference, apart from trees, is no town hall. That got me thinking that maybe we could research some old shots of Colchester (and surrounding areas) then go and try to recreate those images today.
Please let me know your thoughts guys and girls.

Hi Jim - what a fount of good ideas you are! Love the photos of old Colch. I'd like to hear in more detail how you think the idea could be put into practice as a GD. Five old shots on top row with five corresponding modern shots below perhaps? Remember that as currently configured all the GD images are in landscape mode.

I like the 'in my garden but no flowers please' idea - no excuses as we are all confined to home now!

One criterion to bear in mind for GD themes (but by no means the sole criterion) is one reflecting something we have done collectively, such as a photo shoot or a practical evening, the idea behind this being to give potential new members who may see the display a sense of how we operate as a group.

All power to your (and our collective) elbow.

Phil
