Bures Dragon

Post by Lisa » Tue Sep 29, 2020 8:55 am

Hi Folks,
I thought I would put some feelers out for a visit to Bures to photograph the Bures Dragon and St. Stephens Church.
The weather doesn't look very good for next weekend - the 3rd and 4th of October so can members make the following weekend, the 10th or 11th? Weather-wise, the Sat 10th or the morning of Sun 11th are looking better at the moment.

Regarding times, below are screenshot from the Photo Ephemeris of where the sun will be in the sky during the golden hour morning and evening (the thin orange line). I think we will be standing due west of the pin looking east.

I therefore welcome suggestions regarding times.

Please let me know if you are interested and if so which days and times you would prefer.

Hi Lisa.
Unfortunately I will have to sit this one out (despite really wanting to go). I'm off to the sunny (or probably not 😜) Lake District on the 3rd and return the 10th. Have fun though and enjoy.

Hi Lisa,
Please count me in also - either day would be good. I hadn't been aware of the BD until now so it will be another new photographic experience. What times of the day were you thinking of?

Hi Everyone,
Shall we aim for Saturday then? - the afternoon as all members wanting to come can make pm.

I''ll phone regarding opening the church and then post back regarding times and parking.

Ok the BBC weather forecast has now changed since yesterday and it is now looking rainy in the afternoon. Ian has kindly offered to bow out to reduce the numbers to six so that we can go as one group and abide by the covid regulations- otherwise we would have had to have been split into two groups.

As all members wanting to go are fine to go in the morning, would you prefer to meet am to avoid the rain rather than pm?? I'm happy to go with the flow.

Sorry to mess you all about.

Hi Lisa,

As much as I regret it I will have to cancel the visit to Bures Dragon for family reasons. Please let Ian know and hopefully he will be able to rejoin the group. Sorry for this change and I'm sure everybody will come away with lots of great images.

I have telephoned and left a message to ask for the church to be opened before I read the website where it asks to telephone once you are there but not had a reply.

Alison and I will meet you at the carpark where the farm buildings are 10:00am.

Fingers crossed for some nice light :).

Hi Guys, 10am will be to late for me (having some doors delivered between 10-12! I’ll start a bit earlier, probably be there for about 7.00 to catch sun rise (if it happens!). Maybe catch you as I’m leaving. If we don’t bump into each other have a good shoot.

Hi Lisa and Alison
Thanks for a very interesting visit to the Bures Dragon, views of the valley and the picturesque St Stephens Chapel.
The history surrounding St Stephen's Chapel and St Edmund was also fascinating.
